COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A new program this fall to start the academic year at Coldwater High School is giving students extra learning support during after school hours. CHS principal Bill Milnes admits the high school has struggled by waiting to offer this help in remedial education and credits recovery. Milnes says that’s why the decision was made to extend the school day for certain students that require extra support. Others are attending during the last 2 or 3 hours of the class day, for example, for a chemistry or algebra course, and then after school, they head to the library to pick up support with on-line offerings in which they can achieve success without an instructor specifically teaching them that content.
It’s the first year it’s been attempted in an organized fashion and Milnes say they are excited for the opportunity for the first ten or so students who will be able to take advantage of the so-called blended type of situation to help meet their goals of a high school diploma so they can move on what’s next for them.
