COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A former Bronson man accused in the sexual assault of a juvenile male from Coldwater this month in the suspect’s van at a city cemetery in Coldwater won’t be going to trial. 52-year old Carlo Sgambelluri II of West Branch waived his preliminary exam Thursday in Branch County District Court and will be entering a plea next month in Circuit Court. Sgambelluri was charged with one count each of third degree and fourth degree criminal sexual conduct as well as using a computer to commit a crime after being arrested by Michigan State Police in the early morning hours of September 1st. A trooper pulled over his van on a traffic stop along US-12 in Coldwater and said he discovered the boy in the vehicle and learned that the 14-year old had been assaulted. Sgambelluri has been free on $50,000 bond. He’s scheduled to make his plea in Branch County Circuit Court on October 26th.
Meanwhile, a pre-trial hearing in Circuit Court is set for September 28th for 77-year old Donald Williams of Coldwater. He waived his District Court preliminary exam Thursday on 5 counts of possession of child pornography and 5 counts of using a computer to commit a crime with his bond continued at $100,000. Williams also was named in a two count indecent exposure warrant. Williams, who was charged with the alleged pornography crimes on August 25th, is also accused of committing sex acts in public with another man in the front yard of the man’s home across the street in Girard Township on two different occasions last spring.
