COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In boys high school soccer Thursday, Coldwater scored 5 second half goals on the way to a 7-0 win at Jackson Northwest. Wageeh Saeed had 2 goals and 2 assists, while Mana Ahmed had 2 goals and one assist in the Interstate 8 Conference victory. Fadel Said had one goal and one assist, and Yones Mussa and Haroon Aljabaly each had one. Sean Delaney had 2 assists as the Cardinals improved to 10-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference. Coldwater plays at Battle Creek Lakeview in non-conference action Monday night.
The Coldwater JV team stayed undefeated last night with a 4-0 win at Northwest. Shadi Alisaid had 2 goals with one goal apiece for Mohamed Nagi and Mohamed Salem. The Cardinals outshot the Mounties 25-0 while improving their record to 11-0. Tomorrow, the JV squad will host the first annual Coldwater Junior Varsity Soccer tournament, supported by Coldwater Kiwanis, beginning at 9 a.m against Jackson High. Other teams participating are Sturgis and Tecumseh
In volleyball, Quincy and Union City played last night in a Quad at Olivet. Quincy fell to Marshall and Olivet each in two games and then they beat Union City 2-1. Union City was 0-3 on the night, also losing in 3 games to Olivet and in two games to Marshall. In Quincy’s victory over Union City, Mackenzie Moore had 11 kills and 9 digs. Quincy’s record now is 13-6-1. Union City’s stat leaders on the night were Haley McIntosh with 17 kills, Emma Hoppe with 12 digs, Cassie Thorpe with 20 assists and Haley Harty with 5 aces. Union City’s season record dipped to 11-11-2.
In girls golf yesterday, Coldwater put up their best 18 hole score of the season while finishing fifth out of six teams in the Comstock Invitational at the Eastern Hills Golf Course. Coldwater was led by Madison Donbrock who tied for 4th place overall shooting her personal best with a 93. Gabriel Boston shot a 100, Claire Sheppard carded a 106, Jayla Goodwin posted a 109 and Jena Beckhusen rounded out the scoring with a 120.
And in boys tennis on Thursday, Coldwater was a 7-1 winner at home in a non-conference match against Kalamazoo Central. The Cardinals also won the JV match beating the Maroon Giants 4-1. Also in boys tennis, Bronson lost 6-1 at Three Rivers.
It’s Week Five of the Football season with undefeated Coldwater on the road against winless Jackson Northwest The visiting Cardinals are headed to their homecoming showdown next Friday night against Jackson Lumen Christi but this evening, it’s homecoming for Northwest. Coldwater fans travelling to Jackson tonight should expect to possibly be delayed or re-routed in the area of Northwest high school because of street closings for the Mounties homecoming parade. Elsewhere tonight, it’s a Branch County Big 8 battle as Quincy hosts Union City. Also, Bronson opens BCS Conference play with a home game against Centreville. And in 8-Man Football, Tekonsha hosts Litchfield.
Last night, in reserve football action at Cardinal Field, the Coldwater Junior Varsity beat Jackson Northwest 36-35 while the Cardinal freshmen lost to the White Pigeon JV team 26-6. In another Junior Varsity game, Quincy was a winner at Union City 38-8.

In middle school sports, yesterday in volleyball, Coldwater travelled to Jackson with the 8th grade losing their matches at Northwestern middle school while the Lady Cardinals won the 7th grade A match. In the 8th grade A defeat, Olivia Foley had 7 points and 4 kills while in the B match, Melissa Vozar led the team with 14 serves. In the seventh grade Coldwater victory, Veronica Gonzalez and Abby Herman had 7 digs apiece while Madison Beckusen had 4 kills. And at the service line, AnnaKate Dwyer and Mia Rzepka each went 7 for 7.
