COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man is set to go on trial today in Branch County Circuit Court in connection with the death of a 7-month old boy in the spring of 2014. 42-year old Steven Shaw is accused of causing blunt force trauma head injuries that took the life of Carson Burm.
Shaw was living with the mother of the victim in an apartment in Coldwater and she left Carson with Shaw while she went to work on May 29, 2014. That afternoon, the infant boy stopped breathing and he was pronounced dead the next day after being airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. Two days later, Shaw was arrested.
He faces charges of child abuse-first degree and felony murder causing death in connection with the commission of a felony. Conviction on either count could bring up to life in prison. Shaw remains jailed without bond.
