QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy Village Police say a 20-year old woman and her six week old daughter survived an attack by the infant’s father who allegedly choked the mother and struck the baby in the head in an assault that occurred on Tuesday. 21-year old Corey Loyer was arraigned yesterday in Branch County District Court on charges including assault by strangulation, 4th degree child abuse, and domestic violence.
Quincy Police Chief Scott Olney said his department was called early Tuesday afternoon by the emergency room at the Community Health Center of Branch County where 20-year old Taylor Miller was taken by a friend for treatment. She told police when she tried to leave their apartment after an argument with Loyer over money, he struck her and the baby that she was holding and pushed them onto a couch and continued to hit both of them. Olney said he then threw away her cellphone and grabbed the woman in a choke hold until she nearly passed out. Miller managed to escape. Another 2-year old daughter of the couple and a 3-year old boy in the apartment at the time weren’t hurt.
Loyer was arrested by police without incident about 2 hours later at his mother’s home in Quincy Township from where he called police to report that he had been assaulted. Loyer’s bond was set at $35,000 with his next court appearance for a probable cause hearing scheduled for October 15, 2015.
