COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners was busy yesterday at their work session but a lot of what they did might have a different look to it when they consider final approval at their regular full board meeting next Tuesday. There was lengthy detailed discussion on the county’s energy savings plan, a 15-year project. But a decision on the exact funding mechanism, whether it be a bank note or a bond, and a 10 or 15 year pay back, is still being debated.
Meanwhile, the savings that might be realized apparently is playing a part in when the county will move forward on repairs at the county’s animal control shelter, which was damaged by fire this summer. Commissioners last month voted to make temporary repairs to the building so it can be reopened on an interim basis until they figure out a permanent fix which could lead to a new location for the shelter. The repairs will cost an estimated $40,000.
A Branch County Humane Society representative urged commissioners to start the repairs as soon as possible because she said the Humane Society is beyond its capacity to continue taking in stray dogs which it has been doing since the blaze at the shelter in late May.
