BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Two of the suspects in Tuesday’s Craigslist ambush in Urbandale this week have now been formally charged with Armed robbery for luring a Grand Rapids man to Battle Creek under false pretenses and then assaulting them. What makes this more than a simple robbery is that the victim, Jon Vanderweil turned the tables on them when he produced a gun and wounded two of the men who were allegedly clubbing him and his father, and demanding money. 19-year-old Torry Pesche and 23-year-old Christian Logan are both still recovering from the gunshot wounds that forced them to flee the scene of the ambush empty handed. A third suspect is being held on unrelated charges.
Given the nature of the shooting, Battle Creek officials decided that night not to seek charges against Vanderweil.
