COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Wednesday night in high school volleyball, Coldwater was a winner at home over Jackson Lumen Christi 3 games to 1 with the victory putting the cap on the annual “Block Out Cancer” night at CHS. Coldwater captured the opening game 25-13 before the Titans answered in game two 25-18. The Cardinals then prevailed in game 3, 25-18 before staging a rally to take the fourth game 28-26, coming back from a 20-13 deficit to nail down the win.
Our McDonald’s Player of the Match honors for Coldwater were shared by junior Megan Galllup and sophomore Drue Mullin, who both showed strong play at the net with big hits against the taller Titan squad. Gallup had a team-high 13 kills while Jasmine Wellet added 12 kills along with 21 digs. Carly Howell had 4 aces and Jamie Wellet had 27 assists. The win improved Coldwater’s Interstate Eight Conference record to 3-2 and their overall mark is now 15-15-5.
The Cardinals made it a sweep on the night winning both the junior varsity and freshman matches 2-0. In the JV victory, Carlie Wilson had 9 digs, Malorie Rzepka had 7 kills and Emilee Smoker had 10 assists. In the freshman action, Jordan Clemens had 5 kills, Morgan Beckhusen had 5 aces and 6 assists and Haley Wilson had 3 digs.
Also last night in volleyball, Class-C top-ranked Bronson split their matches in a BCS quad meet at Parchment, beating the host Panthers 3-0 before losing in five sets to Buchanan. Jill Pyles had 29 kills, Kiera Lasky had 47 digs, Alexa Ratkowski had 76 assists, and Allison Sikorski had 6 aces. Bronson’s record is 39-8-2.
Tonight in high school sports, in Boys Soccer, Coldwater’s tenth-ranked Cardinals play at home against Marshall in the championship game of the Interstate Eight Gold Division tournament. The match is scheduled to start at 6:45 p.m. following the JV game which begins at 5 p.m. Also in boys soccer, Quincy has an Independent Soccer League Crossover match.
There is reserve football tonight with Coldwater’s freshman team on the road against Charlotte while the Cardinal’s junior varsity will host Kalamazoo Central since Charlotte doesn’t have a JV squad. Elsewhere in junior varsity action, it’s Quincy at Concord while Union City hosts Homer.
