QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, the MHSAA boys soccer state tournament kicked off yesterday and in first round Division 4 district play, Quincy’s season came to an end with the Orioles losing 9-1 at home to Battle Creek Calhoun Christian. The Quincy match was the only varsity event for county teams on Monday’s schedule.
Tonight in boys soccer, Coldwater’s tenth ranked Cardinals open tournament play in the Marshall Division Two District by hosting a first round match against Charlotte beginning at 6 p.m. The winner advances to the semifinals and will take on either Battle Creek Central or Eaton Rapids Thursday at 5 p.m. in Marshall. The District Final is Saturday, again at 5 p.m.
Elsewhere on tonight’s high school schedule, in volleyball, it’s Quincy at Homer while Union City is at home for their Dig Pink/Parent’s Night match against Reading. And in Cross Country, Quincy and Union City run at the Jonesville Jamboree while Bronson has a tri-meet at Comstock. In freshman volleyball yesterday, Coldwater hosted a tri-meet and defeated Kalamazoo Loy Norrix 2-1 and Schoolcraft 2-0. Anna Tappenden had 6 digs, 5 blocks and 14 kills. Jordan Clemens had 9 aces and Morgan Beckhusen had 14 assists. In this week’s Volleyball Coaches Association poll, Bronson is again ranked number one in the state in Class-C.
And in the football rankings, undefeated Coldwater has moved up from seventh to sixth place in this week’s Michigan Associated Press poll released today. The Cardinals will try to finish with a perfect 9-0 regular season record when they play a non-conference game Friday at Adrian, which is 2-6. Last Friday, Coldwater earned an outright Interstate Eight Conference title with a 30-7 victory at home over Charlotte. Today on the Coaches Corner, it’s Quincy football coach Rob Evans.
