COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County’s jobless rate improved last month although there were actually fewer people employed in the county in September compared to August. The unemployment figure last month was 4.1%, compared to 4.4% in August. However, 150 less people had jobs and the labor force shrunk by 225. A year ago in September, Branch County’s jobless rate was 5.6%.
State officials say last month displayed typical seasonal employment changes. Jobs rose in the education sector, public and private, while employment declined in leisure and hospitality services. Also in September, students and other seasonal workers continued to leave the workforce. And, summer agricultural jobs declined.
Unemployment rates decreased slightly in all regional labor markets.
