COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s sizable Yemini population has likely been made aware of a noteworthy court case in the state and now there’s word of a settlement being reached in the matter involving a Muslim woman being asked to remove her religious head scarf. Yesterday, the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations announced a settlement in the case against financial services provider Advance America.
The lawsuit was filed in November 2014 regarding a company security policy that required customers to remove head coverings to enter their establishments. The woman was asked to remove her hijab when she attempted to enter an Advance America location to cash a money order.
The details of the settlement have not yet been released.
