COLDWATER, MI (WTVB)- First Ward Coldwater City Councilman Tim Miller announced last night at the City Council meeting that he will be stepping down from his post effective November 23, 2015. Miller has served on the Council since 2001.
Interested First Ward citizens who would like to fill out the remainder of Miller’s current term, which expires in 2017, are asked to contact Cisco Ortiz, Miller’s fellow First Ward Councilman, at 517-677-3241 or by e-mail ciscoortiz@cbpu.com.
Also last night, 58th District State Representative Eric Leuteuser made an appearance at the city council session to talk about the latest road repair funding plan that was passed last week in the Michigan House. The State Senate has scheduled four bills in the House roads package for committee hearings, even as the plan is getting mixed reviews from the business community.
One criticism is that it puts off raising the money necessary to expand roadwork for four years. Republicans claim it has to be phased in because there aren’t enough construction workers in the state to handle the contracts. Critics say kicking the can down the road will mean all of the leaders now in the legislature and the Governor will be out of office by the time it takes effect, and if the economy has turned sour or gas prices are back up to $4 a gallon, that whoever is in office then could pull the plug on the roads plan.
