COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Community Health Center of Branch County Cancer Center is sending out a big thank you to several Coldwater High School programs as October Breast Cancer Awareness Month draws to a close. The hospital in Coldwater this month received a generous donation from CHS where the students were inspired to give back to their community to the tune of more than $2,300. They designated their cancer awareness week efforts from October 12 through the 16 to the CHC Cancer Center.
The Coldwater High volleyball program sold pink breast cancer shirts, organized a “serve for a pizza” event, as well as hosted a pink bake sale. All their efforts paid off with $1,000 raised. The CHS Cardinal Football team attacked the challenge of raising money in a different way. During their home game versus Charlotte they did a “bleacher run” and asked members of the crowd to donate for the cause. Within three minutes the team was able to raise $1,113.62.
Not all the money was made by athletic groups. The CHS Student Council was also passionate about helping raise funds, hosting a separate bake sale and sold cookies to students during school hours, and initiated a hat day. Any student who wanted to wear a hat to school on the hat day paid a small fee and received a pass. The Student Council was able to raise $214 during the designated fundraising week.
