COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A 35-year old Coldwater Township woman is in trouble and a lot of teenagers in hot water after Michigan State Police busted up a large booze and pot party over the weekend. The woman who lives on Mason Road is behind bars on 9 counts of furnishing alcohol to minors, possession of marijuana and probation violation. The gathering was a birthday party for her 15-year old son.
Four of the teens were booked at the Branch County jail early Saturday on minor in possession charges while 5 others were written tickets. One of those taken into custody was the mother’s 18-year old son, and he was also charged with furnishing alcohol to minors and possession of marijuana.
Michigan State Police got a tip about the party and said when they arrived at the house just before midnight, it reeked of the smell of grass and booze. After obtaining a search warrant, they located five young people hiding in an attic crawl space. About 2 hours later, troopers said the mother was also found hiding in the attic and denied any knowledge of the big bash.
In all, State Police said there were around 30 people at the party and it wasn’t until 6:15 a.m. Saturday before they completed their investigation and cleared the scene.
