BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Authorities say the owner of the Super 8 in Coldwater on Orleans Boulevard has been arrested following an investigation that included agents from Homeland Security. Mehul Patel was taken into custody in Battle Creek, where he also owns the Roadway Inn on Beckley Road. Battle Creek Police and federal agents raided the office of the Battle Creek motel on Thursday. They were looking for evidence that the owner was allegedly running a prostitution ring at the business. Later that day, they raided the Super 8. Patel has now been charged with accepting the earnings from prostitution and maintaining a house of prostitution and is being investigated for fraud. Officers seized paper files and computers from the motels.
