BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, the second week of the state volleyball tournament tips off tonight including the MHSAA Bronson Class C Regional with the host top-ranked Bronson Lady Vikings taking on Bridgman in the first semi-final match at 6 p.m. followed by Schoolcraft against Kalamazoo Christian at 7:30 p.m.
The winners face off in the Regional Final Thursday night at 7 p.m. with the survivor moving on to the quarterfinals at Vicksburg a week from tonight. Bronson last week won the title of the Homer Class C District, beating Union City in three games in the final.
In middle school sports, last night in boys basketball, the Coldwater 8th grade B team was a winner at home over Charlotte while on the road, it was a split for the 7th grade teams with a victory for the A team at Charlotte and a loss for the B team. In the 8th grade win, Grey Skudlarick led the way with 13 points and 8 rebounds. The 7th grade A team beat the host Orioles 44-27. Bradey Moore had 19 points and 12 rebounds while Deandre Douglas added 10 points and 5 steals. The B team lost 27-20 with 8 points for Rylan Brockway.
The Bronson 8th grade team opened their season Monday, losing to Mendon 43-17. Zachary Woodcox and Alex Padilla led the team with 6 points each. The 7th grade team beat Mendon 50-12. Connor Covey led the Vikings with 12 points while Collin Cook had 10 points and Mason Harris had 8. The home opener for Bronson is Thursday against Centreville.
