COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater Historic District Commission has decided the former Gillespie Funeral Home stays while demolition is the fate for the former Quality Quickprint building. At last night’s regular November meeting, the commission considered overturning its action on October 28 when it denied a request by Southern Michigan Bank and Trust to demolish the former funeral home located downtown on Marshall Street north of U.S. 12. However, the motion last night failed on a 3-3 tie vote so the structure built in 1920 won’t be torn down.
The bank had purchased at public auction the property located just north of its Coldwater Lending Center.
Meanwhile, the commission approved the request by Jim Tong to demolish the former Quick Print building on South Hudson Street. Tong plans to create a parking lot for JT’s Billiard Bar and Grill on the site. The original two story brick building was built in 1895. At least three additions have been constructed with the most recent in 1960.
