COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Families in Branch County struggling financially are being urged to apply for assistance to stay in their homes before it’s too late. On December 31, 2015, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) will close the Step Forward Michigan foreclosure prevention program to new applicants.
Step Forward Michigan is a program that assists eligible homeowners at risk of foreclosure by paying their delinquent property taxes and/or mortgage payments. So far through the first three quarters of 2015, the program has helped 9 families in Branch County with delinquent taxes totaling nearly $24,000. Assistance comes from Michigan’s Hardest Hit Fund, which was established in 2010 to provide targeted aid to families in states hit hard by the economic and housing market downturn.
The Step Forward Michigan online portal allows homeowners to access program information and submit their Hardest Hit Fund loan application via the internet. To apply, visit www.stepforwardmichigan.org or call 866-946-7432. Applications again must be received by December 31, 2015.
