CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB) – There will be no trial for the suspect in the Jody Parrick cold case murder. 65-year-old Daniel Furlong has confessed to the crime and an attempted assault against a young Constantine girl last summer. Before it’s all over he may also confess to other crimes spanning back decades. It’s all part of a plea deal. In exchange for a guilty plea to a single count of second degree murder, all other charges will be dropped. Furlong will also be given immunity for any other crimes in St. Joseph County that he confesses to in the future that he committed.
It was the assault on McKenzie Stafford last summer that exposed Furlong to authorities, and more important a DNA swab that matched him to DNA recovered from the body of 11-year-old Jody Parrack in 2007. Furlong avoids life without parole, but at the age of 65, he will still likely die in prison. He could get anything up to life when sentenced on the 2nd degree murder charge on January 11, 2016.
Brittney Beers’ disappearance, a cold case in Three Rivers from 1997, has never been solved.
