COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The average price for a gallon of gas in Michigan is back below $2/gallon for the second time this year, although barely at $1.99 on average. In the Coldwater area, a number of gas stations have posted prices at $1.87 a gallon. AAA spokesperson Susan Hiltz says prices haven’t been this low since the beginning of the year and when that happened in January, it was the first time prices had been that low on average in 6 years. Hiltz says prices are tumbling because of a glut of cheap crude a strong dollar. GasBuddy.com says regular is selling for about $1.75 at a number of stations in Southwest Michigan. If you plan on traveling later this week, you may not want to wait to fill up because there is no guarantee prices will stay that low through the holiday.
