COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Possible replacement of the current tennis courts at Heritage Park is moving forward, after the Coldwater City Council agreed to move ahead with an engineering study. Both city and Coldwater School District officials have agreed the current courts have deteriorated to the point they need to be replaced.
The school district has committed $200,000, with the city also agreeing to put in $200,000. Private fundraising is underway to raise the remainder of the cost, with the total project estimated at $500,000 to $800,000. The city would likely bond to finance the entire project, with the fundraising and the school’s committment coming after the project has begun.
The engineering study would help determine whether the current 8 tennis court set-up can be expanded to 10, which would make the site more attractive for high school tournaments.
Supporters pushing for the court replacement hope the work can be done next summer to have them ready for the fall of 2016 boys tennis season.
