COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Community Schools this fall implemented new afterschool procedures for parents picking up students at elementary buildings and it appears the effort focusing on improved safety is working well. Pete Rogovich is principal at Jefferson Elementary, where they had concerns dealing with a parking lane and a fire lane with cars having to cross that gap as kids came out to meet with parents.
Rogovich says the new system has each parent with a name card that they display at their car window and they bring in around eight vehicles at a time and while blocking off the fire lane, the students exit the building and get to their parents and then the lineup is repeated until it’s finished.
Rogivich says the safety factor with students now not having to cross the front drive at Jefferson Elementary was the impetus behind the updated system and it’s been quite a success so far. He says thanks to the parents and staff members who have teamed up to make it work.
