QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – In boys high school basketball Thursday, Quincy tipped off its season with a win as the Orioles pulled away for a 54-40 non-conference victory at Napoleon. The Orioles led 27-21 at the half and were ahead 42-32 heading into the fourth quarter. Nathan Karney had 12 points and 7 assists while Brandy Gary and Quinn Eifrid scored ten points apiece with 7 rebounds for Gary. Quincy’s home opener is tomorrow afternoon against Addison.
Union City’s record slipped to 1-1 after the Chargers dropped their home opener last night 72-40 to Hanover Horton. The Comets took control early with a 19-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Chargers have a week off before returning to action next Friday with their Big 8 Conference opener at Athens. In last night’s JV game, Union City fell to the Comets 65-16.
Also last night, Tekonsha lost their season opener at home 54-37 to Waldron with 15 points for Everett Lewis-Lanphar.
In girls basketball, Bronson improved to 3-0 last night with a 35-32 conference win at home over White Pigeon. Kiera Lasky had 10 points for the Lady Vikings, who are now 2-0 in the BCS East. Next Friday, it’s Bronson at New Buffalo.
Last night’s reserve basketball action included Coldwater’s girls junior varsity losing 45-30 at Marshall with 9 points for Samantha Rodesiler.
Tonight in high school sports, in varsity boys and girls basketball, it’s Coldwater at Marshall and we’ll have the two games on the radio as both schools open up Interstate Eight Conference play.
