BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Grief counselors are available today at Pennfield High near Battle Creek after two teenage girls that were juniors at the school were killed in a single car crash Thursday afternoon in Pennfield Township. The 16 and 17-year old victims were identified by school officials as Kaleigh Woodman and Sabrina Almarez.
Calhoun County deputies said the girls’ vehicle was headed south on East Avenue North when it went out of control around a half mile north of Morgan Road and ended up striking a tree. According to deputies, it appears speed was a factor in the crash.
The accident was reported at 2:45 p.m. yesterday afternoon and the two girls were pronounced dead at the scene.
