STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – A fire in a plastics molding machine at a Sturgis Company cleared the building and stopped production for a while last night at ACM Plastics on St. Joseph Street. There was heavy smoke pouring from roof vents as the first firefighters rolled up to the structure just before 6 p.m. They say the smoke was so dense inside the building that they had to use thermal imaging just to find the flames.
The fire was sparked by an overheated element used to melt plastic inside a large plastic molding machine. The fire was contained in that device.
