CEDAR SPRINGS, MI (WTVB) – It wasn’t as bad as the I-94 pile-up near Galesburg last January, but a 50-car pile up that occurred on U.S. 131 in Kent County’s Alpine Township Friday and had a lot in common with the big one. What the two chain-reaction incidents shared was slick roads, white out conditions cause by a finger of Lake Effect snow and drivers who were just driving too fast for conditions. Some motorists say they were suddenly blinded and driving on ice…but managed to avoid the worst of it by heading for the ditch. A couple of big differences between the two pile-ups was that there were far fewer semi’s involved and no serious injuries in Friday’s incident.
