COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County now has two, instead of only one Michigan Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officers, and one of the new officers, Isaac Tyson, introduced himself at last night’s meeting of the Branch County Township Supervisor’s Association. Tyson’s partner is Joshua Jackson and they just started working in the county this fall after nearly a year of training since joining the DNR January 1, 2015.
Tyson, who is a native of Sparta, north of Grand Rapids in Kent County, told the supervisors how much he loves his job and how he grew up hunting and fishing. He stressed he has a passion for conservation, the outdoors and resources and the State of Michigan. Tyson explained that part of his job as well is teaching hunter safety, giving talks to various groups and making appearances at schools.
According to Tyson, DNR officers are always trying to spread the message that they encourage people to use the state’s resources but use them wisely and safely and follow the rules.
Every county in Michigan has at least one DNR officer with the goal of making it two conservation officers in every county. The state is beginning a new class in January with another one reportedly to follow. Tyson says that’s a positive sign but he also remarked their ranks are spread pretty thin.
