ASHLEY, IN (WTVB) – A truck driver from West Michigan was involved in a fatal traffic accident yesterday afternoon south of Angola, Indiana that took the life of a man from Fayette, Ohio. The collision between the semi and the car occurred on southbound I-69 near Ashley. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department said 68-year old Marion Garrison was killed when his 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis was struck on the passenger side by a Freightliner tractor trailer driven 53-year old Glen Maltman of Belding, Michigan. Deputies said Garrison lost control of his car on an ice covered railroad bridge and then spun around into the passing lane where it was hit by the semi. Garrison was pronounced dead at the scene. According to deputies, he was unrestrained and his airbags didn’t deploy. Maltman escaped injury. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor. The accident that happened around 12:40 pm Monday remains under investigation.
