COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police say a traffic stop early today on I-69 in Branch County led to the driver’s arrest on felony drug and marijuana delivery charges. The MSP trooper said the 28-year old suspect was speeding southbound on the highway when he pulled over his Dodge Dakota pickup near Pearl Drive in Ovid Township.
The trooper said he smelled alcohol and when the driver opened his door, an open bottle of beer spilled onto the seat, part of a 12-pack in the vehicle. A pat down of the suspect revealed a pill bottle with evidence the trooper said suggested the driver had also ingested some of the medicine he didn’t have a prescription for and that brought the charge of illegal possession of a schedule 4 drug. Finally, State Police say a search of the truck cab revealed a little over a pound of marijuana, prepackaged in 17 bags.
The suspect from Romeo, Michigan is also facing a misdemeanor charge of OUID, operating under the influence of drugs. The arrest happened around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
