LANSING, MI (WTVB) – A voter initiative to amend the Michigan Constitution to prohibit discrimination against women and the LGBT community has run out of steam, at least for this election cycle.
Fair Michigan Co-chair Dana Nessel has announced that due to financial issues, they won’t be able to proceed with signature collections, after getting language approved for the petitions late last year. Michigan gay and civil rights groups disagreed whether this was the right time for such a vote, and concerns grew because a similar proposal recently failed in Texas. They vow they aren’t giving up the effort, just suspending it for now.
