ATHENS, MI (WTVB) – There’s been a rash of gas station armed robberies in the area since the beginning of the year and there was another holdup early today, this time at the Shell station in Athens. The Admiral Stations in Coldwater and Sturgis were robbed in early January.
The holdup at the Shell in Athens was reported shortly after 3 a.m. today. The station clerk told police the bandit flashed a handgun and made off with cash, escaping on foot to a possible getaway vehicle. There were no injuries. The suspect wore a black mask with dark clothing and was described as around 5 foot, 8 inches tall, between 160-170 pounds.
Authorities say it the crime this morning seems to match the armed robbery that occurred at 9 a.m. Sunday at a Citgo Station on West Michigan Avenue in Battle Creek. No suspects are in custody.
The Coldwater holdup happened the night of January 4 while the Admiral in Sturgis was robbed a week later not long after midnight.
