COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners were just not going to be outdone by the Coldwater City Council when it comes to quick meetings. Yesterday’s session for commissioners lasted a little under 8 minutes while the city council had an 8 minute gathering for their regular meeting Monday night.
Both governmental bodies had short agendas for the first of their two regular February meetings, giving commissioners and councilmembers a bit of a breather before their workloads pick up steam later this month and for the remainder of what’s expected to be very busy 2016.
One bit of business handled by the county board Tuesday their approval of an allocation of $6,400 for the Branch-Hillsdale-St Joseph District Health Agency so the agency wouldn’t increase environmental health fees for the county. It was a 3-2 decision with Commissioners Dale Swift and Jon Houtz voting against the motion.
The brief meetings may have been record breakers for their brevity but there don’t appear to be any official time standards maintained for such matters by either the City Council or Board of Commissioners.
By the way, the county board did hold an executive session yesterday at the conclusion of their regular meeting to discuss union contract negotiations, so, just for the record, the city council, in the end, probably got the best of the commission this time around.
