BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – A Bronson man is behind bars on a pair of felony charges in connection with a reported domestic violence attack that occurred on Monday in Bronson. City police say the alleged victim is the suspect’s longtime girlfriend.
44-year old Mark Jonaitis is being held on $35,000 bond at the Branch County Jail. He was arraigned yesterday in District Court on 3 counts, assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder and assault by strangulation, both ten year felonies, and domestic violence, a 93-day misdemeanor.
According to police, it was around 5:45 p.m. Monday when Bronson Chief Steve Johnson responded to the incident where the couple lived at 202 South Walker Street. The woman managed to call 911 during the assault but wasn’t able to communicate with dispatchers. Jonaitis fled on foot and was later located that night on Farrand Road in Sherwood Township after Michigan State Police responded to a report of a suspicious person around 10:30 pm. Investigators said the woman didn’t seek medical treatment.
The next court date for Jonaitis is a probable cause hearing on February 16, 2016.
