TORONTO (WTVB) – It’s the NBA All-Star Game weekend at Toronto, where the events tip-off today with the slam dunk and 3-point contests Saturday and the game Sunday night. Detroit All-Star center Andre Drummond will be the first Piston to compete in the Slam Dunk contest since Jerry Stackhouse in 2000.
On the 125th anniversary of the invention of the game, the NBA is holding its midseason gala outside of the United States for the first time. Canada is home to Dr. James Naismith, who invented the game, former two-time MVP Steve Nash and even, for a couple of years in his youth, reigning MVP Stephen Curry, who has emerged as the new face of the league. Curry’s wife is Canadian as well.
The Detroit Pistons are on break now until a week from tonight when they play at Washington.
