BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Reaction from local officials in the city of Bronson and from Branch County as well after word was received Tuesday that Bronson Precision Products would be closing by the end of March when 125 plant workers will be jobless.
Brandon Mersman, Bronson City Manager said for over 30 years Bronson Precision Products has been a tremendous asset and great employer for the community. He said the city plans on meeting with the company as soon as possible in order to see how they can assist Bronson Precision with their recession plan. Mersman added that their thoughts are with the many families, friends, and neighbors that built their careers around the company and the news release stated “they will continue to look forward and overcome this devastating loss as we have in the past.”
Bronson officials have contacted the Branch County Economic Growth Alliance for help with reallocating the workforce. Lisa Miller the Growth Alliance Executive Director said “We are shocked and saddened to hear about the closing of Bronson Precision Products,” According to Miller, they were the top employer in Bronson, as well as top 10 for manufacturing in Branch County. She assured that her agency will do whatever they can to help locate new job opportunities for those that will be affected by the closure. The company had been in the process of seeking capital which, if obtained, would have enabled it to avoid or postpone the shutdown and continue operations. Unfortunately, those efforts were unsuccessful.
