BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, last night in girls varsity basketball, Bronson pulled out an overtime win at home, beating Centreville 51-45. It was close all the way before the Vikings secured the victory by outscoring the Bulldogs 14-8 in the extra period. Payton Robinson led Bronson with 14 points and Kirin Cekander added 11 as the Vikings improved to 9-9 overall and 4-4 in the BCS East.
Quincy lost at home to Springport 44-8. The defeat dropped the Orioles record to 1-11 in the conference and 1-17 overall.
Also in the Big 8, Union City fell at Jonesville 75-34 with 11 points for Allison Adams. The loss dropped the Chargers to 3-15 overall and 2-10 in the league.
Tekonsha was a winner at Litchfield 41-31 with 23 points for Jordynn Lloyd and 16 rebounds for Alexis Newbold.
In reserve basketball last night, the Coldwater girls won a pair of games at home over Harper Creek while the Boys lost twice on the road to the Beavers. The Junior Varsity Lady Cardinals beat Harper Creek 54-40 with 23 points for Samantha Rodesiler while Emilee Smoker had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Coldwater won the freshman game 39-22 with 20 points and 10 rebounds for Kelsi Herlan.
The JV boys lost at Harper Creek 61-52 despite 29 points in defeat for Brent Smoker. The Beavers won the freshman game 45-35 with 10 points for Bryce Lafferty.
Tonight in high school sports, in boys and girls Varsity basketball, it’s Senior Night for Coldwater as the Cardinals host Harper Creek. Both games will air on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB, with live coverage starting around 5:30 p.m. following the Evening Journal. The girls tip-off the evening at 6 p.m. with the boys action beginning about 7:45 p.m. following the Senior Night ceremonies between games.
Elsewhere in noys only contests, Quincy hosts Springport, Bronson is at Centreville, Union City is at Jonesville, and Tekonsha hosts Litchfield. Today in boys bowling, Bronson travels to Kalamazoo for the KVS Conference meet at Eastland Bowl.
In middle school girls basketball, Coldwater swept 4 games from Charlotte. In the 8th grade wins on the road, the A team beat the Orioles 35-30 with 8 points for Taylor Wilber while the B team scored a 13-6 victory. The 7th grade A team won at home over Charlotte 35-34 with 11 points for Mia Rzepka. The B team beat the Orioles 20-10 with 9 points for Joselyn Salto.
