BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school girls basketball Monday, Bronson was a winner at home with a 69-11 non-conference victory over Colon. Payton Robinson had 16 points with 10 points apiece for Kirin Cekander and Kiana Mayer as the Lady Vikings improved to 10-9.
Last night in gymnastics, Coldwater traveled to Angola for a state line dual meet and the visiting Cardinals barely lost to the host Hornets 94.9 to 94.6. Due to variances in scoring in the Indiana Gymnastics Association, Coldwater wasn’t able to pick up a team qualifier but individuals were able to collect Regional marks.
The Cardinals had three individual qualifying scores on the uneven bars, earned by Erica Rodgers, Abigail Swick and Sarah Hughes with Rogers leading the way with her personal best performance of 7.4 for fourth place. All three hope to earn their fourth and final qualifying scores at Thursday’s home meet. Next, on the vault, four gymnasts earned Regional marks for their efforts. Rodgers tied for third with a season best score of 8.4. The other qualifiers were turned in by Shelby Kahler, Darien Dyer and Claire Sheppard.
For the floor exercise, Rodgers posted a personal best score of 8.8 for first place while Sheppard finished fourth. Balance beam was the final event and Coldwater performed 5 stuck routines with Hughes taking first place with a qualifying score of 7.8. Dyer also stuck her routine and tied for second in the meet with her mark of 7.6. Maddy Hedstrom was the sole all-around competitor, placing 4th overall. Coldwater hosts St. John’s High School on Thursday for their final home meet of the regular season.
Tonight in high school boys and girls basketball, Coldwater has an Interstate Eight Conference matchup with Jackson Lumen Christi and the boys varsity action in Coldwater will air on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB, with the pregame show at 7:00 p.m. The girls JV and varsity teams play at Lumen Christi.
Also tonight, there are a pair of Branch County pairings with a boys non-conference game in Bronson between the Vikings and the Quincy Orioles while in girls hoops, in the Big 8, Quincy hosts Union City. This afternoon in varsity boys bowling, Coldwater has a home match against Bronson at Midway Lanes.
In middle school girls basketball, the Coldwater 8th grade B team lost at Marshall while for 7th grade teams in Coldwater, it was a split with the host Cardinals winning the B game over the Redhawks. The 8th grade lost 45-30 with 6 points for Meme Yaldo.
The 7th grade A team went down to defeat 43-26 with 13 points for Mia Rzepka. The B team won their game 20-15 with 14 points for Joselyn Salto.
