COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It’s appears we’ve had a milder than normal flu season around Branch County. The local health department office in Coldwater this winter hasn’t issued any special notices about the flu or updated the latest numbers on-line at the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency website and that’s understandable.
This year’s flu vaccine is being praised for its effectiveness. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says vaccine recipients are 59% less likely to get the flu than those who are not vaccinated. Health officials say the vaccine is well-matched to the flu viruses that are going around. Last year’s flu vaccine was only 23% effective.
