COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The freezing rain and snow that moved into the area Tuesday afternoon made a mess of the high school sports schedule, causing a number of postponements and cancellations. In boys basketball, the Concord-Union City boys basketball game was rescheduled for this Saturday at Union City’s McNett Fieldhouse, with the JVs playing at 5:30 p.m.and the varsity at around 7:00 p.m,, while Bronson’s game at Colon was also cancelled with no makeup date.
Quincy did get its game at Reading in, with the Orioles rolling to a 71-37 victory. The win improved Quincy’s record in the Big Eight to 9-4 and 12-7 overall. Nathan Karney scored 16 points with 10 assists. Brandon Gary had 15 points and 5 rebounds, while Quinn Eifred had 12 points. Reading falls to 2-17 overall.
The weather conditions also forced the organizers of the Al Clyne Exchange Club Freshman Boys Basketball Tournament to move yesterday’s scheduled games to this evening at Legg Middle School. That means Coldwater will take on Schoolcraft tonight at 7:00 p.m., preceded by Marshall vs. Sturgis at 5:30 p.m. The games originally scheduled for tonight will now be played tomorrow, withThursday’s originally scheduled games now set for Friday.
The MHSAA Girls Basketball Tournament resumes tonight with the District Semifinals. At the Class B Coldwater District, the host Lady Cardinals, who are now 13-8 following Monday’s come-from-behind 62-51 win against Paw Paw, will face 9-10 Three Rivers in the night’s second semifinal game. It’s expected to be a 7:45 p.m. tip from the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium, with our live coverage on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 beginning at around 7:30 p.m. Our coverage will also be streamed online at wtvbam.com.
The Three Rivers-Coldwater winner moves on to Friday’s District championship game to take on the winner of tonight’s first contest between Edwardsburg and Vicksburg.
There’s also two games on tap in the Class C District hosted by Quincy. Homer, which eliminated the host Orioles 51-21 Monday, will face Bronson this afternoon at 5:30 p.m. Reading will take on Union City in the nightcap of the twinbill at 7:30 p.m., with the two winners playing for the District crown Friday night.
