BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Thirty-four Battle Creek residents are under federal indictments for what the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Grand Rapids says was a major tax fraud conspiracy. Derrick Gibson is accused of being the leader of the group.
Federal prosecutors say they used personal information from prison inmates along with employees and patients of the Battle Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center to steal over $22 million from the federal government in bogus tax returns over eight years.
