COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Additional safety measures are on the way for staff at the Branch County Courthouse. County commissioners have approved the installation of panic buttons at the offices of the County Clerk and Register of Deeds. Those buttons will be able to issue an alert to Branch County 9-1-1 Central Dispatch. The installation cost for the panic buttons is just under $15,000.
In addition, two part time deputies will be hired to allow full coverage at the security desk at the courthouse entrance. That will cost the county approximately $30,000 per year. Currently the desk is not staffed during all the hours the courthouse is open.
