COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It appears the effort to replace the tennis courts at Coldwater’s Heritage Park will be getting a $50,000 shot in the arm. For the past month, organizers have been working to raise an additional $50,000 locally to allow for a “crowdfunding” match from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
As of Thursday evening, the additional $50,000 was raised locally, allowing for the match. The deadline for raising the money had been Tuesday, March 15. Organizers are still hoping to raise another $50,000 locally to bring the campaign total to $900,000.
The money being raised will pay for removing and replacing the existing tennis court surface, as well as installing new lighting and fencing, and establishing an endowment for future maintenance. Work is expected to begin in June, right after the Coldwater High School girls tennis season ends.
