COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency is reminding parents and caregivers of the techniques that can help to substantially reduce the infant death rate in Michigan.
There were 58 infant deaths reported in Branch, Hillsdale and St. Joseph Counties between 2010 and 2014. Officials say ten of the deaths were sleep-related while seven involved co-sleeping practices.
The agency reports the infant death rate in Michigan has been relatively steady since 2004 following years of significant decline. Officials fear that IS an indication that not all parents and caregivers are getting the message about safe sleep practices.
