COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County unemployment rate went down slightly in February.
Figures from the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives show a 4.5 percent unemployment rate, down from 4.6 percent in January.
The labor force also went up by 175 while 200 more people in the labor force were able to find jobs when compared to the previous month.
Hillsdale County’s unemployment rate was down to 4.6 percent while St. Joseph County remained at 3.7 percent.
Analyst Dr Leonidas Murembya said unemployment rates were stable throughout Southwest Michigan. He reported that some of the recalls of support staff in education were recorded in February but construction continued to cut jobs seasonally. In addition, employment in leisure and hospitality inched up in some areas, while inching down in others.
