UNDATED (WTVB) – A freeze warning is in effect Tuesday morning for Calhoun and Kalamazoo Counties. It got cold enough Monday night in some parts of southwest Michigan to cause real damage to early blossoming fruit crops like apples and cherries, but it may be a while before that damage, if there is any, reveals itself.
Fruit farmers have a variety of techniques they might apply to try to save the crop on cold nights with varying degrees of success.
It may be a few days to a week before they can begin to assess the damage, and there may still be some cold nights yet this week.
Another shot of cold air is in the extended forecast with highs only around 40 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Snow showers are also in the forecast for Wednesday night through Friday.
