CHICAGO, IL (WTVB) – After Brandon Finnegan’s no-hitter ended in the seventh inning, Addison Russell clubbed a three-run homer in the eighth to lift the Cubs past the Reds, 5-3, in their home opener at Wrigley Field. David Ross singled with two outs in the seventh to break up the no-hit bid and then scored on Jason Heyward’s two-run single later in the inning. Adam Warren picked up the win and Hector Rondon notched his second save as the Cubs moved to 6-1.
The Cubs have transferred slugger Kyle Schwarber to the 60-day DL. Schwarber suffered a season-ending knee injury after an outfield collision with Dexter Fowler last week. Meanwhile, Chicago has also acquired pitcher Giovanni Soto from the Indians for cash.
