COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals improved to 3-0 with a doubleheader sweep of the Comstock Colts on Tuesday evening at Lowe Field in two very different games.
Cardinal pitchers Sean Printke, Brandon Lewis and Nick Shaw allowed just two hits in the opener as the Cardinals defeated the Colts 4-0. Lewis got the win and Shaw earned the save as he struck out the side in the seventh. Brendan Spangler homered while Shaw had a triple. Coldwater’s defense did not allow an error in the opener.
Things did not go so smooth in the nightcap for the Cardinals as they had to overcome four errors. Comstock had the tying and go ahead runs on base in the top of the seventh before winning pitcher Brayton Rzepka got the final out of the game as Coldwater hung on for a 9-8 win. Rzepka also had two hits and drove in three runs in the second game.
The McDonalds Players of the Game were Printke in the first game and Rzepka in the nightcap.
The Cardinals open Interstate 8 play at Marshall on Thursday.
Coldwater’s J.V. baseball team also swept a doubleheader from Comstock by scores of 9-4 and 17-2. Austin Spray and Lucas Santure were the winning pitchers. Cody Nill struck out five to get the save in the opener. Santure had two hits in the first game while Oliver Winter drove in a pair of runs. Austin Robey led the Cardinal offense in the nightcap with three hits and four RBI’s. Spray also had four RBI’s. Coldwater’s J.V. record is 4-0.
BOYS GOLF—
Coldwater 158, Lansing Waverly 199
Coldwater opened the 2016 Boys’ season on Tuesday at the Coldwater Golf Course. Medalist for the match was Nolan Duda who fired a 1 over par 37, followed by Nate Waterbury and Nick Galliers who each carded 40’s. Collin Warner shot a 41 and Alec Keplinger rounded out Coldwater’s scoring with a 42. Coldwater will be hosting 22 teams this Friday in the Cardinal Invitational at the Coldwater Golf Course. A number of top teams in the State will be participating.

The Bronson points came from Clare Mayes at number four singles and from the number four doubles team of Elizabeth Smith & Shelby Souva.
