STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – Sturgis Police say the reward for information that leads to the successful prosecution of the individuals responsible for the recent damage of headstones at the Oaklawn Cemetery has grown to $3,000 thanks to the help of several area businesses.
The businesses came forward to assist Sturgis Police after the city initially offered a $1,000 reward.
Police say the vandals destroyed over 30 head stones and grave markers sometime between April 1 and April 3, 2016.
The damage was estimated at over $50,000. A majority of headstones damaged were historical dating back as far as the 1800’s. The subjects also broke into and vandalized a small building on the cemetery property.
