COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball Saturday, Coldwater went 2-1 to finished third while Quincy dropped three games in the Pat Lowe Memorial Tournament at Lowe Field and at Borden Field on Saturday. The Cardinals lost to Mattawan 10-4 but came back to defeat Portland Saint Patrick 10-6 and Dundee 6-5.
Austin Krzeminski was the McDonalds Player of the Game in the game against Mattawan as he collected two hits. He along with Brandon Lewis, Porter Skidmore, Brendan Spangler, and Kameron Miller all had two hits against Saint Patrick. Lewis belted a home run while Skidmore had a double and a triple.
Coldwater rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Dundee as they improved to 6-1. Lewis, Brayton Rzepka and Cameron Barnes all had two hits for Coldwater. Collin Torrey was credited with the wins in relief.
Quincy had a tough day as they lost to Gull Lake 10-0, Dundee 15-0 and Portland St. Patrick 14-3. Following doubleheaders on Thursday and Friday, the three games the Orioles played on Saturday meant they had to play seven games in three days. The Orioles are now 2-6.
Gull Lake defeated Mattawan in the Pat Lowe Tournament championship game 10-0 in 5 innings.
Bronson improved to 4-1 and won the Union City Rotary Tournament for a second straight year as they defeated the host Union City Chargers in the finals 8-4. The Vikings took control with a six run fifth inning. Ethan Cossairt threw three scoreless innings to get the win. Thadd Herman and Bryce Withington both had two RBI’s. Herman also had two doubles. Seth Bruce drove in two runs for the Chargers.
Union City’s Colton Johns pitched a five inning perfect game as the Chargers defeated Constantine in the opener 12-0. Johns struck out eight as he set down 15 straight batters. Colin Kreger led the Charger offense with three hits and four runs scored. The Vikings advanced to the finals with a 10-4 win over Michigan Center. Daniel McMichael struck out seven in six innings of work to get the win. Tyler Roussey and Tommy Littlefield each drove in a pair of runs.
—GIRLS SOFTBALL—
Coldwater dropped the championship game of their Invitational Tournament and suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday as they were beaten by Olivet 12-7. Olivet never trailed after scoring three runs in the top of the fifth to snap a 5-5 tie. Darlene Horn was charged with the loss in relief. Kendall Galloway had three hits while Payton Watson doubled. Katie Stanton and Darlene Horn both had two RBI’s.
Coldwater advanced to the finals with an 8-2 win over Portland St. Patrick. Watson and Stanton each had three hits and an RBI double. Horn was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts. Coldwater is now 7-1.
In Junior Varsity softball Saturday, Coldwater went 2-1 on the day to win the Silver Division championship.

Bronson went 2-1 at the Homer Invitational. They defeated Springport 14-2 and Homer 10-7 but lost to Jackson County Western 18-7. Allie Sikorski was the winning pitcher against Springport and Homer. She also had two home runs and drove in four runs against the Trojans. Payton Robinson had four singles and drove in five runs in the win over Springport while Itza Depaz belted a home run. Robinson and Sikorski both had three hits in the loss to County Western.

Both of the Quincy track teams finished second in the Pork Weiss Homer Invitational on Saturday. Addison won the boys meet with 114 points following by Quincy with 100 and Homer with 88. Springport won the girls meet with 145 points followed by Quincy with 117 and Homer with 77. Quincy’s Bryce Ruhl won the 200 in 23.97 and the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, eight and three-quarter inches. Brandon Gary won the 3200 10.54.4. Quincy’s 800 relay team of Michael Fisher, Ryan Gibson, Luke Rufenacht and Ruhl won in a time of 1:36.49.
First place finishes in the girls meet were recorded by Kayla Hayes in the discus with a distance of 94 feet, eight inches and from the 3200 relay team of Gabby Porter, Haley Crabbs, Harmony Harpster and Haley Bean with a time of 11:04.5.
