COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council will be asked to approve bids for two major projects in Heritage Park Monday night.
The council will be asked to approve a contract with Miller Davis Company for the renovation of the park’s tennis courts at an amount not to exceed $897,700.
City Manager Jeff Budd says all three bids for the project were higher than the prepared construction budget of just under $730,000.
After Miller Davis submitted the low bid of $908,000, the city’s tennis committee worked with Miller Davis and Integrated Architecture to make over $135,000 worth of engineering changes. Budd says in his report to the council the largest and most expensive item to be trimmed were brick planters.
Various concrete areas were also removed. It was also determined additional costs could be saved by contracting directly with the electrical contractor Jepson Electric and by having the Coldwater BPU Electric Department provide in kind services.
The city council will also be asked to approve the bid for the demolition of the Heritage Park Pool and tennis courts. Budd is recommending the council approve a bid of just over $37,000 from Parrish Excavating.
The demolition will include the removal of all of the fencing and concrete at both locations. The pool opened in 1974 but it’s no longer needed with the Brown indoor aquatic center now operating. Plans call for the site of the old pool to be converted into a spray park.
Work on the pool will start immediately while the tennis court demolition is scheduled to start the week of May 15, 2016.
